CNET's Roadshow: Nissan Broadens Crossover Appeal with All-New 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport

Qashqai! Excuse me? That's the general reaction here in the U.S. to the name of a certain Nissan model sold internationally. And that's why Nissan has chosen to rename the Nissan Qashqai, the very popular subcompact crossover model it sells in Europe and elsewhere globally, as the Nissan Rogue Sport for the North American auto market.

The all-new 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport has arrived here in the U.S., and according to a new review from CNET's Roadshow, which previewed the Rogue Sport at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, this little SUV should get a lot of love from U.S. buyers.

The Rogue Sport is designed to appeal to more to singles and couples, and is particularly well-suited for city-dwellers who like to get out and about in the countryside on the weekends. It's more than a foot shorter than the regular Nissan Rogue, making it extremely maneuverable through city streets and a perfect fit for tight parallel parking spots. The Sport is powered by 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out 141 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque, which sounds low but is quite sufficient for this crossover's subcompact size.

That's not to say the Rogue Sport is tiny, by any means, notes CNET. In fact, it's only slightly smaller than the Kia Sportage, and larger than peers like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Chevrolet Trax. The Rogue Sport also comes with a generous helping of advance driver assist safety features, including blind-spot monitoring, forward emergency auto brake with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning.
